The Mathematic Question

He was sitting on his chair, as usual inside his room. He has been doing nothing since this morning other than surfing the internet. He can't wait to get out of the town. He decided to figure out how many more hours he has left before he can wonder around at a new place.

Days left : 15 days

1 day = 24 hours

15 days = (24 x 15) hours = 360 hours.

Knowing that he usually spends his night time sleeping for at least 5 hours. So, he approximated that he actually takes 6 hours and a half to sleep every night. Thus,

Sleeping time = 6.5 hours

Total sleeping time for the whole 15 days = Days left x Sleeping time

= (15 x 6.5) hours

= 97.5 hours.

For this semester, he has 3 papers for the final. Each paper takes 3 hours respectively. He sat his first paper last Monday and he has 2 more papers to go. The time he will spend for the remaining papers is,

Total time spend for final exam = (2 x 3) hours

= 6 hours.

Everyday, he spends at least 7 hours to study, which includes day and night time.

Total study time = Study time x Days left

= (7 x 15)hours

= 105 hours.

Also, taking consideration on the time he spends to have his meals everyday. Each meal takes about 1 hour. Thus, he needs 3 hours to have his breakfast, lunch and dinner. He also assumed that he'll go out for supper at least 5 more times for this 15 days remaining. Usually, he and his housemates spend about 1.5 hour for supper.

Total time for eating = Time for having meals + Time for having
supper

= [(15 x 3) + (5 x 1.5) ]hours

= 52.5 hours.

He reckoned that he normally spends about 15 minutes taking shower and another 5 minutes to brush his teeth every morning and before he goes to sleep. Because he takes his shower twice everyday, he takes 50 minutes to get himself fresh and clean.

Total hygiene time = Days left x hygiene time per day
= (15 x [50/60]hours

= 12.5 hours.

Lastly, not to mention time that he could wastes which includes picking nose, crapping in the toilet, farting around and bugging his housemates. He assumed that he wastes 20 minutes in total for this, what he called "leisure" time.

Total Leisure time = Days left x Leisure time
= (15 x [20/60]) hours

= 5 hours.

Thus the remaining time he has to stay in this pityful place is:

Remaining time = Total Time - (Total sleeping time + Total Study
Time + Total time for final exam + Total Study
Time + Total Eating Time + Total Hygiene Time
+ Total Leisure Time )
= 360 - (97.5 + 6 + 105 + 52.5 + 12.5 + 5) hours
= 81.5 hours.

He knew that,

24 hours = 1 day
81.5 hours = (81.5/24)

= 3. 396 days.

So, he only 4.45 days left to stay in this small house. That means, if he wakes up at 7.30A.M on Monday, he should be off on Wednesday at 7.20 PM.Satisfied with the result, he went out from his room to take shower. The counting starts now.
